AUSTIN (KXAN/Nexstar) — The impeachment trial for suspended Attorney General Ken Paxton is officially underway, beginning Tuesday morning despite Paxton's requests to dismiss all articles of impeachment. Proceedings began with the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Texas administering oaths to Patrick and others involved in the process, swearing in all members of the jury — the 31 senators — except for Paxton's wife, Sen. Angela Paxton, who is barred from voting in the trial. The Texas House adopted 20 articles of impeachment against Paxton. The Senate will consider 16 of those articles in the trial. The first task for the court was to rule on pretrial motions. Paxton’s attorneys had requested the Senate dismiss all of the articles of impeachment. With bipartisan votes, Texas Senate members voted to deny 16 motions fr...

More than 4 million student loan borrowers are enrolled in the Biden Administration’s new income-driven repayment plan, including nearly 332,000 borrowers in California.“We’re not just lowering payments for today’s borrowers,” said Education Department Under Secretary James Kvaal. “We’re making paying for college more affordable for millions of future students.”The repayment plan came after President Biden’s student loan forgiveness program was struck down by the Supreme Court earlier this summer, a move that blocked millions of borrowers from receiving up to $20,000 in federal student debt relief nationwide. But unlike the earlier initiative, this repayment program — the Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) Plan — doesn’t immediately forgive debt.
